Early Foundations (1958–1965)
In 1958, the National Development Academy (APN) "Veteran" in Yogyakarta was established, marking the beginning of the faculty of agriculture. Born from the spirit of Indonesia's independence defenders, APN represented their responsibility to educate the people. Three pioneering departments were offered when it first opened: geological mining, agricultural economics, and business technology.
Academic Growth (1965–1977)
Transition from APN to PTPN (1965–1997)
In 1965, APN “Veteran” transformed into Perguruan Tinggi Pembangunan Nasional (PTPN) “Veteran” through a Joint Decree (No. 140/Kpts/1965) and came under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense and Security. In the same year, the Faculty of Agriculture was officially established
Transformation from PTPN to UPN Kedinasan (1977–1995)
Further development occurred when PTPN was restructured into Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) “Veteran” Yogyakarta in 1977. This UPN Kedinasan era expanded the university’s role in national defense education and enhanced research and academic collaboration. The faculty established the Department of Agronomy (1978) and the Department of Soil Science (1985) to meet national agricultural needs and strengthen its scientific foundation.
Status Transition (1995–2014)
In 1995, UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta transitioned from a government-affiliated university to a private institution under the Sudirman Veterans Foundation (YKPBS). Despite challenges, the Faculty of Agriculture adapted through academic restructuring. In 2007, the Agronomy and Soil Science departments merged into the Agrotechnology Study Program, while Agribusiness continued as an independent program, maintaining the faculty’s competitiveness in Indonesia’s higher education landscape.
Modern Era & Accreditation (2014–Present)
Transition from Private University to Public Univeristy “UPN PTN Satker” (2014–2021)
A major milestone was achieved in 2014 when UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta was designated as a public university through Presidential Decree No. 121 of 2014. This transition marked the UPN PTN Satker era, characterized by strengthened governance, academic quality, and research excellence. During this period, the faculty offered two undergraduate programs Agribusiness and Agrotechnology, and established a Master’s Program in Agribusiness (2018) to enhance postgraduate education and applied research.
Transformation to Public University into status PTN PK-BLU (2021–Present)
Following the Decree of the Minister of Finance No. 20/KMK.05/2021, UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta obtained the status of a State University with Public Service Agency Financial Management (PTN PK-BLU). The Faculty of Agriculture currently offers three undergraduate programs Agrotechnology, Agribusiness, and Soil Science and three master’s programs in the same fields.
